    We will always remember her contributions to our small but strong community. Lady Cham was the editor of West Indian Times magazine, which kept us inform with news from the caribbean and covered local entertainment. Who can forget the “Dear Lady Cham” Column? Most of us might remember her with her camera and crew snapping photos, at many different local events. We also remember her years as host of The Caribbean Connection on 91.1 fm each Sunday.

    The Hampton Roads and Virginia Reggae Community has lost one of it’s own. Alison Lady Cham Champagnie has passed away from this life..

    This is the 8th staging of the Virginia Reggae Awards. There will be performances from Veterans and new faces to the Virginia Reggae scene. Awards will be presented to the winner in ten different categories.

    The award ceremony will be held at the prestigious Palm Gardens in Norfolk Va. This is an all age family friendly FREE event. Your support fosters growth of the Virginia Reggae community.

    Representing Japan is Barrier Free and representing the USA from the Bronx NYC is Young Hawk with Jamie Hype.

    Both sound have won many battles in the clash arena. Young Hawk is currently enjoying a winnings streak unlike any other this year.

    This war promises all the elements one would expect at the highest level of sound of sound clash. The big question is, who do you think will win this one?

    Third World was formed in Jamaica in 1973. Stephen “Cat” Coore and Richard Daley have been core members of the group since its conception.

    Natures Child and Adwela & The Uprising will be opening for Third World.
    Natures Child has been rocking the local market for many years and are known to most reggae fans. Adwela is a new and upcoming roots reggae band with a bright future.

    Tonight some sounds are going to be buried under a barrage of music and only one will rise to the top to claim the Kings Cup. Get ready to lend your voice in support of your favorite sound in tonight’s 45 shootout at Montego’s.

    Tonight some sounds are going to be buried under a barrage of music and only one will rise to the top to claim the Kings Cup. Get ready to lend your voice in support of your favorite sound in tonight’s 45 shootout at Montego’s.

    There are four challengers battling for the Kings Cup. The contenders are Lion Heart from Virginia Beach, Matrixx Supreme from DC, Soul Shot from Richmond, Jah Mecca from Richmond and Spotlight from Richmond. We have seen some of these sounds clash in the past, so tonight’s clash shall be filled with big tunes, creative talk and other antics.

    If you have never been to a 45 shootout, tonight is your chance to experience what happens when music meets wit in a dancehall setting.

    The competition takes place tonight at Montego’s Caribbean in Virginia Beach. Show time is approximately 10 pm so grab a whistle or a foghorn and we’ll see you at the clash.

    The rules for tonight are as follows:

    3 rounds total and then tune for tune
    One team will be eliminated after 2nd round and another after the 3rd round.
